Roof Replacement In Winnipeg, MB

A new roof should last decades, not give you problems by the second winter. Trudel Roofing installs asphalt shingle roofs built to hold up to Winnipeg's freeze-thaw cycles and summer UV.

A new roof changes how your house looks from the street. Sharp clean lines, fresh colour that matches the rest of the exterior, and a finish built to hold its own on a Winnipeg block for the next 25 to 35 years. We’ve been doing full re-roofs across Winnipeg since 2011, on everything from post-war bungalows in St. Boniface and Transcona to newer builds in Bridgwater.

If you’re not sure whether yours is ready, the signs usually show up first at the edges: shingles curling, bare patches where the granules have worn off, and colour faded compared to your neighbour’s. In Winnipeg, where roofs take a beating from -40°C winters and high-UV summers, most asphalt roofs are ready for replacement somewhere between 25 and 35 years, sometimes sooner on south-facing slopes.

How Do We Handle a Roof Replacement?

Every roof we install follows a documented 10-step process, the same one we walk through with you during the quote. It starts with a site evaluation, where we look at the roof, plan the work, and lay out what’s involved. From there the process runs through tear-off and install to a final walk-through and your sign-off. The consistency is how we keep quality steady through busy summer months when crews are running back-to-back.

Once the install begins, we tear off your existing roof down to the deck. We don’t do overlays. Laying new shingles on top of old saves money up front but hides any damage to the decking underneath, voids most manufacturer warranties, and shortens the lifespan of the new roof. The tear-off is also our closer look at the structure (beyond what was visible at the site evaluation), and it’s where we find any decking issues that need fixing before the new roof goes on.

Any decking issues found during tear-off get fixed before the next steps. Soft spots, rotten sheathing, and damage from previous leaks all get replaced so the new roof has a solid base to fasten into.

Once the deck is sound, we install ice and water shield at the eaves, in the valleys, and anywhere ice tends to build up, which is critical for blocking ice dam meltwater in late winter and early spring. Synthetic underlayment goes across the entire deck, then we run starter shingles around the perimeter before installing the main field of CertainTeed Landmark shingles.

During the installation, we install these crucial components of your roofing system: attic vents, plumbing flashings, fan and exhaust vents, ridge venting. Ridge cap shingles close the roof. The deck and shingles get blown off with a leaf blower to clear debris, the project leader runs an internal inspection to confirm the work meets our standards, and then we walk the roof with you. Once you’re satisfied, we accept payment.

After every job, we do a magnetic sweep of your driveway, lawn, and any play areas to lift loose nails and screws, and the eavestroughs are cleared of any debris from the install. That part matters. Kids and tires don’t mix with stray nails.

Which Shingles We Install

Most of our roofs use CertainTeed Landmark architectural asphalt shingles, suited to Winnipeg’s mix of high-UV summers, wind-driven Prairie storms, and freeze-thaw winters.

CertainTeed Landmark Asphalt Shingles

CertainTeed Landmark is an architectural-style asphalt shingle with a dimensional look and strong wind resistance, useful in a city that gets Prairie storm gusts most springs. CertainTeed backs them with industry-leading product warranties, and the colour range covers everything from traditional black to weathered woods that suit older Winnipeg homes.

What About Flat Sections

Some Winnipeg houses, especially additions and infill in older neighbourhoods, have a low-slope or flat section attached to a pitched main roof. We handle those as part of a re-roof using modified bitumen, which holds up well in our climate. More on our flat roofing page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most of the questions homeowners ask before a roof replacement in Winnipeg are practical: how long it takes, whether it can be done in winter, whether the old shingles need to come off, and what’s involved in scheduling. Honest answers below.

How long does a new roof last in Winnipeg?

A properly installed asphalt shingle roof in Winnipeg typically lasts 25 to 35 years, with newer shingle technology pushing the upper end. South-facing slopes wear faster because of UV exposure, and roofs with poor attic ventilation can fail sooner than expected. The decking, ventilation, and flashing matter as much as the shingles themselves.

Can you install a roof in winter?

Yes, but with limits. Asphalt shingles seal properly when the temperature is above roughly 4°C, so we don’t book new installs in deep winter unless it’s an emergency replacement after damage. Most full re-roofs happen between March and October. If you’re getting quotes in winter, we’ll schedule the work for spring and lock in the price.

Do I need to be home during the installation?

No. As long as we have access to the property and any power outlets we need, you can work, travel, or be at the cottage while we re-roof your house. We’ll communicate with you by phone or text throughout the day and let you know when the project is completed and everything is taken care of.

Will you tear off the old shingles or roof over them?

We tear off. Always. Overlay roofing (putting new shingles on top of old) saves money up front but hides any damage to the decking underneath, voids most manufacturer warranties, and shortens the lifespan of the new roof. On a Winnipeg house that may have already been re-roofed once, the tear-off is where we find the issues that need fixing.

How long does a re-roof take?

For a typical Winnipeg bungalow or two-storey home, a full tear-off and re-roof takes one to three days depending on the size and complexity of the roof. Steep pitches, multiple dormers, and complicated valleys add time. We’ll give you a realistic timeline during the quote, not an optimistic one.

"Trudel Roofing came highly recommended and they did not disappoint. From dealing with Andrew on the quote and all questions to Madison in the office and the crew on install day, they exceeded my expectations. Great job done on my house and I highly recommend them!"
- Travis Kirton
Super happy.
"Super happy with our experience with Trudel Roofing. We had been having a bad leak through the roof of our house we bought 2 years ago. A repair was needed to fix an old poorly done repair surrounding 3 roof vents. We can't even tell that there are new shingles put down. We feel a lot better knowing our roof is totally sealed now."
- Mark Allard
Great experience.
"Trudel recently replaced my shingles and gutters. I'm very happy with the results. The owner was quick to respond to my emails and answered any questions I had. Those who completed the work explained the job to me and ensured that any nails and other debris were cleaned up before they left."
